- 400g fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced 1/4-inch thick
- 1/2 cup (15g) fresh basil leaves, whole or torn
- 3 tablespoons (45ml) extra virgin olive oil

- Place the mozzarella slices on top of the tomatoes, alternating the pattern.
- Tuck the basil leaves between the tomato and mozzarella slices to evenly distribute the flavor.
- Drizzle the olive oil over the tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil, ensuring an even coating.
- Sprinkle the balsamic vinegar over the salad for a touch of acidity and sweetness.
- Season the salad with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
- Let the salad sit for about 10 minutes at room temperature to allow the flavors to meld.
- Serve immediately as a refreshing appetizer or side dish.
Notes:
For best results, use fresh, high-quality ingredients as they are the stars of this simple dish. This salad is perfect on its own but can also be served with crusty bread to soak up the juices. If storing, keep the components separate in the refrigerator for up to 1 day and assemble the salad just before serving.
