Common Recipe for Blue cheese dressing

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (240g) mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup (120g) sour cream
  • 4 ounces (115g) blue cheese, crumbled
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) white wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon (3g) garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon (3g) onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1g) salt, or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1g) freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) milk or buttermilk, optional for thinning

Instructions:

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the mayonnaise and sour cream. Stir until well blended.
  2. Add the crumbled blue cheese to the bowl. Use a fork to mash some of the cheese into the mixture while leaving some chunks whole for texture.
  3. Stir in the white wine vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until well mixed.
  4. Taste the dressing and adjust the seasoning if necessary, adding more salt or pepper according to your preference.
  5. If a thinner consistency is desired, slowly stir in the milk or buttermilk until the dressing reaches your preferred consistency.
  6. Transfer the dressing to a covered container and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
  7. Give the dressing a good stir before serving. If it has thickened too much, add a splash more milk or buttermilk to loosen it.

Notes:

This blue cheese dressing pairs wonderfully with salads, chicken wings, or as a dip for vegetables. For a more intense blue cheese flavor, increase the amount of blue cheese to 6 ounces. Store the dressing in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week. For those who prefer a smoother dressing, the mixture can be blended in a food processor until smooth.
