Common Recipe for Blue cheese dressing
Ingredients:
- 1 cup (240g) mayonnaise
- 1/2 cup (120g) sour cream
- 4 ounces (115g) blue cheese, crumbled
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) white wine vinegar
- 1 teaspoon (5ml) Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon (3g) garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon (3g) onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon (1g) salt, or to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon (1g) freshly ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) milk or buttermilk, optional for thinning
Instructions:
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine the mayonnaise and sour cream. Stir until well blended.
- Add the crumbled blue cheese to the bowl. Use a fork to mash some of the cheese into the mixture while leaving some chunks whole for texture.
- Stir in the white wine vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until well mixed.
- Taste the dressing and adjust the seasoning if necessary, adding more salt or pepper according to your preference.
- If a thinner consistency is desired, slowly stir in the milk or buttermilk until the dressing reaches your preferred consistency.
- Transfer the dressing to a covered container and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
- Give the dressing a good stir before serving. If it has thickened too much, add a splash more milk or buttermilk to loosen it.
Notes:
This blue cheese dressing pairs wonderfully with salads, chicken wings, or as a dip for vegetables. For a more intense blue cheese flavor, increase the amount of blue cheese to 6 ounces. Store the dressing in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week. For those who prefer a smoother dressing, the mixture can be blended in a food processor until smooth.
