Tiropita

A Greek pastry filled with a savory mixture of feta cheese and eggs, wrapped in layers of crispy phyllo dough.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch (23x33 cm) baking dish with olive oil.
  2. In a large bowl, combine crumbled feta, ricotta, eggs, parsley, nutmeg, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  3. Unroll the phyllo dough and cover it with a damp towel to prevent drying out.
  4. Place one sheet of phyllo dough in the prepared baking dish and brush lightly with melted butter. Repeat this process with 4 more sheets, buttering each layer.
  5. Spread half of the cheese mixture evenly over the layered phyllo.
  6. Layer 5 more sheets of phyllo over the cheese mixture, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
  7. Spread the remaining cheese mixture over the phyllo layers.
  8. Finish with the remaining phyllo sheets, brushing each layer with melted butter. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top, if desired.
  9. Using a sharp knife, score the top layers of phyllo into squares or diamonds.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the phyllo is golden brown and crisp. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
