French Toast
A breakfast dish made from bread soaked in a mixture of eggs and milk, then fried until golden, often served with syrup, powdered sugar, or fruit.
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
- Pour the egg mixture into a shallow dish large enough to hold a slice of bread.
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of butter. Allow it to melt and bubble.
- Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, allowing it to soak for about 20 seconds on each side. Make sure the bread absorbs the mixture but does not become too soggy.
- Carefully transfer the soaked bread slices to the hot skillet, cooking 2 slices at a time. Fry until the undersides are golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
- Flip the slices and continue cooking on the other side until golden brown and cooked through, another 3-4 minutes. Adjust heat if the bread is browning too quickly.
- Remove the cooked French toast from the skillet and keep warm. Add the remaining tablespoon of butter to the skillet and repeat with the last 2 slices of bread.
- Serve the French toast warm, drizzled with maple syrup and dusted with powdered sugar.
