Oatmeal porridge
A warm and creamy dish made from oats simmered in water or milk, often served with toppings like fruits, nuts, or sweeteners.
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, bring the water or milk and salt to a gentle boil over medium heat.
- Stir in the rolled oats, then reduce the heat to low. Simmer the oats, stirring occasionally, for about 5-7 minutes or until the mixture thickens and the oats are tender.
- Add the brown sugar or honey, ground cinnamon, and vanilla extract (if using). Stir well to combine.
- If you prefer a creamier texture, stir in the heavy cream or milk and butter until fully incorporated.
- Remove the pan from heat and let the porridge rest for a minute to thicken further.
- Divide the porridge into serving bowls.
- Top each serving with your choice of fresh or dried fruits and chopped nuts.
- Serve warm, with additional milk or cream on the side if desired.
