Manty
Dumplings stuffed with spiced meat, often served with yogurt sauce.
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add water and egg. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover with a damp cloth and let rest for 30 minutes.
- In another bowl, combine ground meat, onion, garlic, cumin, coriander, black pepper, and water. Mix until well combined.
- Divide the dough into four pieces. Roll each piece into a thin sheet, about 1/8 inch (3mm) thick, and cut into 4-inch (10cm) squares.
- Place a tablespoon of filling in the center of each square. Fold the corners to the center and pinch edges to seal.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large steamer or pot. Arrange the manty in a single layer, leaving space between dumplings. Steam for 40 minutes until cooked through.
- For the sauce, mix yogurt, lemon juice, and dill in a small bowl. Adjust seasoning with salt if needed.
- Serve the manty hot, drizzled with yogurt sauce.
