Manty

Dumplings stuffed with spiced meat, often served with yogurt sauce.

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add water and egg. Mix until a dough forms.
  2. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover with a damp cloth and let rest for 30 minutes.
  3. In another bowl, combine ground meat, onion, garlic, cumin, coriander, black pepper, and water. Mix until well combined.
  4. Divide the dough into four pieces. Roll each piece into a thin sheet, about 1/8 inch (3mm) thick, and cut into 4-inch (10cm) squares.
  5. Place a tablespoon of filling in the center of each square. Fold the corners to the center and pinch edges to seal.
  6. Heat vegetable oil in a large steamer or pot. Arrange the manty in a single layer, leaving space between dumplings. Steam for 40 minutes until cooked through.
  7. For the sauce, mix yogurt, lemon juice, and dill in a small bowl. Adjust seasoning with salt if needed.
  8. Serve the manty hot, drizzled with yogurt sauce.
