Ham and cheese sandwich
A classic sandwich made with layers of ham and cheese, often served on sliced bread or a baguette, and sometimes toasted or grilled.
Instructions
- Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium heat.
- Lay the slices of bread on a clean surface. Spread a thin layer of butter on one side of each slice.
- On the non-buttered side of two slices, spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard and mayonnaise.
- Layer the ham and cheese over the mustard-spread slices. Add tomato slices, a pinch of salt, and pepper.
- Top with fresh arugula or lettuce, then place the remaining bread slices on top, buttered side up.
- Place the sandwiches in the preheated skillet. Cook for 3-4 minutes until the bottom is golden brown and the cheese begins to melt.
- Carefully flip the sandwiches and cook the other side for another 3-4 minutes until the bread is toasted and the cheese is fully melted.
- Remove from the skillet and let cool slightly. Slice each sandwich in half if using whole grain bread, or into smaller pieces if using a baguette.
- Serve warm with a side of crisps or a light salad.
