Orange chicken

A Chinese-American dish featuring crispy fried chicken pieces coated in a sweet and tangy orange-flavored sauce.

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, salt, and white pepper. Set aside.
  2. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs. Dip the chicken pieces into the egg, then dredge in the flour mixture, ensuring they are evenly coated.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Fry the coated chicken pieces in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 4-5 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
  4. In a saucepan, combine soy sauce, rice vinegar, orange juice, orange zest, sugar, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar is dissolved and the sauce thickens slightly, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. In a large clean skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the fried chicken pieces and pour the prepared orange sauce over them. Toss to coat the chicken evenly in the sauce.
  6. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is well coated and the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency.
  7. Transfer the orange chicken to a serving dish. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds, if using.
