Orange chicken
A Chinese-American dish featuring crispy fried chicken pieces coated in a sweet and tangy orange-flavored sauce.
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, salt, and white pepper. Set aside.
- In a separate bowl, beat the eggs. Dip the chicken pieces into the egg, then dredge in the flour mixture, ensuring they are evenly coated.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Fry the coated chicken pieces in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 4-5 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
- In a saucepan, combine soy sauce, rice vinegar, orange juice, orange zest, sugar, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar is dissolved and the sauce thickens slightly, about 5-7 minutes.
- In a large clean skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the fried chicken pieces and pour the prepared orange sauce over them. Toss to coat the chicken evenly in the sauce.
- Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is well coated and the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency.
- Transfer the orange chicken to a serving dish. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds, if using.
