Hot dog with mustard
A classic American dish consisting of a grilled or steamed sausage served in a sliced bun, typically topped with mustard and optional condiments like ketchup, onions, or relish.
Instructions
- Preheat your grill to medium-high heat, or preheat a grill pan over medium-high heat if cooking indoors.
- Brush the bratwurst sausages lightly with vegetable oil to prevent sticking.
- Place the sausages on the grill or grill pan and cook for about 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are evenly browned and cooked through.
- While the sausages are cooking, place the hot dog buns on the grill for 1-2 minutes, just until they are lightly toasted.
- In a small bowl, mix the sauerkraut with caraway seeds, ground black pepper, and salt. Set aside.
- Once the sausages are cooked, remove them from the grill and let them rest for a minute.
- Place each sausage in a toasted bun.
- Top each hot dog with a generous teaspoon of German mustard, followed by a spoonful of the seasoned sauerkraut.
- Sprinkle finely chopped onions and add a small spoonful of sweet relish on top of each hot dog.
- Serve immediately while the sausages are hot and the buns are warm.
