Hot dog with mustard

A classic American dish consisting of a grilled or steamed sausage served in a sliced bun, typically topped with mustard and optional condiments like ketchup, onions, or relish.

Instructions

  1. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat, or preheat a grill pan over medium-high heat if cooking indoors.
  2. Brush the bratwurst sausages lightly with vegetable oil to prevent sticking.
  3. Place the sausages on the grill or grill pan and cook for about 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are evenly browned and cooked through.
  4. While the sausages are cooking, place the hot dog buns on the grill for 1-2 minutes, just until they are lightly toasted.
  5. In a small bowl, mix the sauerkraut with caraway seeds, ground black pepper, and salt. Set aside.
  6. Once the sausages are cooked, remove them from the grill and let them rest for a minute.
  7. Place each sausage in a toasted bun.
  8. Top each hot dog with a generous teaspoon of German mustard, followed by a spoonful of the seasoned sauerkraut.
  9. Sprinkle finely chopped onions and add a small spoonful of sweet relish on top of each hot dog.
  10. Serve immediately while the sausages are hot and the buns are warm.
