salmon sashimi
A Japanese dish consisting of thinly sliced raw salmon served fresh, often accompanied by soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger.
Instructions
- Ensure the salmon is fresh and of sashimi-grade quality. Pat it dry with a paper towel.
- Using a sharp knife, slice the salmon against the grain into thin slices, about 1/4 inch (6mm) thick. Arrange slices neatly on a chilled plate.
- In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, wasabi paste, mirin (if using), rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until the sugar is dissolved. This will be the dipping sauce.
- Serve the salmon slices with the prepared dipping sauce on the side.
- Garnish the salmon slices with toasted sesame seeds and finely chopped chives.
- Arrange pickled ginger on the plate as a palate cleanser between bites.
