Bread Pudding

A classic dessert made from stale bread soaked in a mixture of milk, eggs, sugar, and spices, then baked until golden and often served with a sauce or cream.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8-inch (20cm) square baking dish with a small amount of butter.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt. Whisk until well blended.
  3. Add the cubed stale bread to the mixture and gently stir to ensure all pieces are well coated. Let it sit for about 10 minutes to allow the bread to absorb the liquid.
  4. Fold in the raisins into the soaked bread mixture.
  5. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
  6. Drizzle the melted butter over the top of the bread pudding to help with browning.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.
  9. Serve warm, optionally with a drizzle of cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
