Peanut butter cookies

A classic American cookie made with peanut butter, sugar, and flour, known for its rich, nutty flavor and signature crisscross pattern on top.

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to cream together the peanut butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and softened butter until smooth and well combined.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract to the mixture and beat until fully incorporated.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  6. Scoop tablespoon-sized amounts of dough and roll them into balls. If desired, roll each ball in additional granulated sugar before placing them on the prepared baking sheets, spaced about 2 inches apart.
  7. Flatten each ball slightly using a fork, creating a crisscross pattern on top of each cookie.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers may look slightly undercooked, but they will firm up as they cool.
  9. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
