Lasagna

A layered Italian dish with pasta sheets, meat or vegetable filling, tomato sauce, and béchamel or ricotta cheese.

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add lasagna noodles and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion and garlic, sauté until onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add ground beef to the skillet. Season with salt, pepper, oregano, and basil. Cook until the beef is browned and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  5. Stir in marinara sauce with the beef mixture and let it simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
  6. In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and a pinch of salt. Mix well to combine.
  7. Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch (23x33 cm) baking dish. Layer 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce.
  8. Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by a third of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Repeat the layers: sauce, noodles, ricotta, mozzarella, and Parmesan.
  9. Finish with a final layer of noodles, remaining sauce, and top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  10. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  11. Let the lasagna cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
