Lasagna
A layered Italian dish with pasta sheets, meat or vegetable filling, tomato sauce, and béchamel or ricotta cheese.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add lasagna noodles and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion and garlic, sauté until onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add ground beef to the skillet. Season with salt, pepper, oregano, and basil. Cook until the beef is browned and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Stir in marinara sauce with the beef mixture and let it simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
- In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and a pinch of salt. Mix well to combine.
- Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch (23x33 cm) baking dish. Layer 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce.
- Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by a third of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Repeat the layers: sauce, noodles, ricotta, mozzarella, and Parmesan.
- Finish with a final layer of noodles, remaining sauce, and top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
- Let the lasagna cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
