Chili con carne

A hearty stew made with ground meat, chili peppers, tomatoes, beans, and spices.

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add onion and garlic, sautéing until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
  2. Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef. Cook, breaking up the meat with a wooden spoon, until browned, about 8 minutes.
  3. Stir in cumin, chili powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper, cooking for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Add the diced tomatoes with their juice, kidney beans, beef broth, tomato paste, and chopped jalapeño to the pot. Stir to combine.
  5. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Uncover the pot and continue simmering for an additional 15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the chili to thicken.
  7. Stir in lime juice and adjust seasoning with more salt if needed.
  8. Serve hot with toppings like sour cream, shredded cheese, or chopped cilantro, if desired.
